...Supreme Court "unaccountable," "out of control," and a despotic oligarchy.
That is an extreme view uttered by an extremist right-wingnut, who would like you, the American people, to return to a world dominated by a few extreme elitists, all old white men, who are so out of touch with mainstream America as to believe they can return to the 19th century.
SCOTUS is hardly "unaccountable, out of control" or a "despotic oligarchy" as Dr. Dobson claimed during "Injustice Sunday". And, by his presence, Frist is pandering to the extreme religious-right, the same wingnuts that would have this country be a theocracy before the end of Bush's term.
"I don't think it's radical to ask senators to vote," Dr. Frist said. "Now if Senator Reid continues to obstruct the process, we will consider what opponents call the 'nuclear option.' Only in the United States Senate could it be considered a devastating option to allow a vote. Most places call that democracy."
Frist, unfortunately, is preaching to the choir, in that during the Clinton years (which is the most recent similar event), dems wanted nominees to be given a hearing. While the republicans had control of the Senate, thus the Senate Judiciary Committee, they were instrumental in blocking, through other means than the filibuster, some 60 judicial nominees were DENIED an up or down vote, some denied a scheduled hearing even. But, that was when they CONTROLLED the Committee. Likewise, when repugnuts did not control the committee, they used the filibuster, as the minority party, to block judicial nominees, including a nominee for SCOTUS. The filibuster is there for a reason, and it has generally been used by the MINORITY party. There is no reason why these wingnuts should want to remove this option used by the minority party, UNLESS THEY DON'T WANT THE MINORITY TO HAVE A VOICE!
When Fristy and his cohorts can sufficiently explain why repugnuts BLOCKED over 60 judicial nominees during the Clinton era, and are threatening a rule change when dems blocked ONLY 10 of the MOST EXTREME, meaning they are so far out of the mainstream.
It seems to me that the repugnuts are a party of sore-losers, and this judicial fight, complete with threats by the party in control, is seriously focusing on their shortcomings. If they can't get their own way, they threat or complete, rule changes to cover their asses (DeLay ethics rule change is a perfect example). I've had enough of that, and so should you. These people are in Washington to represent us, not a small vocal minority of extremists, such as Dobson, Tony Perkins.
Meanwhile, Frist says that he is ready to offer a compromise.
Senate aides say they expect any confrontation to be postponed past the May recess next week. Dr. Frist has said he intends to offer a compromise, although it would still entail approving the blocked judges.
Approving judges that were so extreme and so controversial that they were blocked before is NO FUCKING COMPROMISE. Obviously, Frist does not have an clue of the word "compromise." If Reid backs down in any way, shape or form, in this fight, it willcause a serious rift in the democratic party. Too many of us are too tired of "compromising" with extremists. Their definition of compromising has turned out to be wingnut code for "stomping all over our liberties so they can turn this country into a theocracy."
