This morning has turned out to be quite hectic, even after an evening of just trying to relax, which really didn't happen. When I finally got a chance to check my email, I was informed that SKBubba was "in trouble", by egalia (thanks!). The problem? He was maliciously put into the position of outing himself by the owner of the "supposed" alternative Knoxville weekly paper, MetroPulse.
SK received an email from Brian Conley, which he posts here, and which includes several disturbing threats. SK has always kept his blogging identity secret, because doing business in east Tennessee when your customers know you are a liberal can be very difficult. Conservatism is the name of the game here, even though there are plenty of liberals in and around east Tennessee, and the state overall. Personal feelings and business dealings often cross the lines, particularly in politics, even though it shouldn't.
Mr. Conley threatens SK, in email, by not only exposing his identity, but also to publish his police record (if any) and his personal credit report. How fucking creepy is that? As SK points out,
But if someone like Mr. Conley is indeed able to get my credit report, America is in deep, deep trouble.
For bloggers, the implications of exposing police records and personal credit histories by others, because they don't agree with the bloggers politics or opinions (or whatever reason) is a serious problem.
The whole situation is not only an outrage, it is intolerable!
