Bush just completed the SOTU address, if you missed it, Think Progress has a copy posted here. Think Progress has tons of posts up fact-checking Bush's SOTU address. One could say to Bush, liar, liar, pants on fire to quite a few of his statements tonight. But, mostly he told only half the story much of the time.
For instance, Bush said, "Dictatorships shelter terrorists, feed resentments and radicalism..." He should have added "and religious extremists" to go along with the dictatorships.
When Bush discussed the Iraqi reconstruction, he conveniently left out that it is rife with fraud.
As far as warrantless spying on American's, Bush misinformed America that other presidents did the same thing. Uhh, no, they didn't. They went to FISA and got the necessary warrants, unlike Bush.
I dont' know which American's Bush talks to, but it sure as hell isn't me or any of the good people that I know. They don't have more money to spend, let alone save or invest. Their incomes are shrinking, not getting bigger. It is a myth that "the tax relief you passed has left 880 billion dollars in the hands of American workers, investors, small businesses and families..." The very sad fact is, poverty is, and has been on the rise every year since Bush has been in office.
On top of a potential extention of the war to include Iran, the gutting of all of our social saftey nets, trying to implement the same health care initiatives that Clinton offered and was skewered for, but with more of a privitization twist, we get a statment to reinstate the war against Social Security. We get platatuides about saving American's from HIV/AIDs through faith-based groups. What deals has he already made with the pharmaceuticals? He's denied other nations cheaper antiretroviral drugs, forcing nations to pay high-priced big-time pharmaceuticals, meaning less people are getting the necessary medicines.
When does it end? Whenwill Bush give us a real accounting, without the rose-colored glasses, of the pitiful state of this country, where he has lead us?
There is so much that is wrong with this man's words, that I'm just too tired to go on. I can't believe that people will buy into his rose-colored world, instead of looking at their own reality and the economic reality of their friends, family and co-workers (if they have any co-workers).
