Maliki blew any shred of credibility he may have had left when he fired a Sunni official that called for an investigation of the gang rape of Sabrine Al-Janabi by Iraqi Security forces.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday fired a top Sunni official who had called for an international investigation into the rape allegations leveled by a Sunni Arab woman against three members of the Shiite-dominated security forces.
In this AP report, we get a clearer reasons why Maliki has completley discreditied this woman.
Al-Maliki has said the rape allegations were being used by his critics to discredit the security forces and undermine a major, U.S.-led Baghdad crackdown. In exonerating the three officers Tuesday, al-Maliki said they should be rewarded as a sign of confidence in the force.
Ignore gang rapes because it will discredit the crackdown? And in the very same sentence, he has given clear access to Security Forces to just take their way with any woman they my feel compelled to rape, without any investigation, or responsibility for their actions. Boggles the mind, doesn't it?
What is has done is further fuel the Sunni into threatening retaliation.
In a statement posted on the Web, a major Sunni insurgent group — the Islamic Army in Iraq — declared "we will not sleep or be satisfied until we avenge you and every free woman who was stripped of her virtue and dignity." The authenticity of the statement could not be confirmed.
Great.
