Interesting study released today, saying that party affiliation is changing among Tennesseans.
With increasing dissatisfaction with President Bush and the handling of the war in Iraq, fewer Tennesseans are claiming to be Republican, a new poll shows.
The Middle Tennessee State University spring poll released today found that 33 percent of respondents identify themselves as Democrats, 31 percent consider themselves Republicans and 22 percent claim to be independent.
That compares with the 35 percent that took the Republican label in 2004, when Bush won handily in Tennessee with 57 percent of the votes. Twenty-nine percent that year said they were Democrats and 23 percent independent.
I would love to know the changes regionally, particularly for east Tennessee which has leaned heavily rightward. It would also be interesting to know the changes in each of TN major cities.
